Here is AutoCAD Tips to Use Tricks for the View Command. This AutoCAD 2004 Tips, will show how to use some tricks for the View command in AutoCAD, especially in AutoCAD 2004. Did you know that AutoCAD has a built in digital camera for itself? That’s right folks, you can take snapshots of the current view any time you need to. These snapshots are then saved within the current drawing so that any time you open the file you can recall the exact same viewpoint from a previous session! There is even an option for printing your saved views in the Plot dialogue box. 3D users will enjoy the fact that you can save the UCS with the view also! Doesn’t get any better than that. But wait, there is even more good news. 2004 products have the Saveimg command also. This command will allow you to save the current view as a BMP, TGA, or as a TIF file. That’s a full color raster format file that can be saved to the hard drive. 3D users love this one too after rendering.
Now, back to the View command trick. The View command will open a dialogue box where you can give the current view a name and set it current. The trick here is to double-click the word Current in the Named Views tab. This allows the user to rename the current view. Yes, there is a New button to the right but if you already have the view to save setup why go through the extra step? Granted, if you need to save a different UCS or re-pick the windowed area you could use this button and type the new name there. 99% of the time you are good to go with the current view so, just rename the current view by double clicking in the first box. Too easy? How about using a hidden AutoCAD command called View Save. Simply setup the correct view and enter VS at the command line. At the View Name: prompt just type in the name you want and hit the Enter key. Done, no dialogue box at all.
To restore the saved view in AutoCAD you will have to open the View dialogue box again, highlight the needed view and pick the Set Current button and finally the OK button. AutoCAD users can use the Quick View restore command by typing in QV at the command line. A dialogue box with only the saved view names in your drawing will be listed. double click on the correct view name and you screen regens to the correct view!
