Here is “AutoCAD Tips for Trimming and Extending Dimensions”. This AutoCAD tip is one that provokes a “I didn’t know I could do that” comment from most people.
Typically when users edit dimensions they select the dimension to be edited without a command active to activate the dimensions grips. Then, by making one of the extension line grips hot, the line would be stretched to the correct location. Unbelievable to most users, you can actually trim or extend associative dimensions to other geometry. That’s right, trim and extend. Go ahead, try it yourself, it’s truly amazing to watch. Open a session of AutoCAD and try it!
Create some geometry that typically allows itself to be a trimming edge or an extension boundary such as a line. Now create a couple of dimensions and issue the trim or extend command and select the line you drew. At the second prompt pick one of the dimensions. Viola! It actually snaps that dimension to the trim or extension object. Now you don’t have to trim or extend an entity and then grip edit or stretch the dimension to the correct position. Just trim or extend that Associative dimension to the right spot along with the geometry.
